CIA Insurance and Risk Management was established in 1975 under the name of Commercial Insurance Agency, Inc. under the management and vision of Jim Kunath.



Sam Crudo joined CIA Insurance and Risk Management in 1989 to lead the company's expansion into a more comprehensive financial services provider by developing the Employee Benefits Services and Financial Services departments. This was a significant step in establishing the company's reputation as an innovative, client-focused leader. In ensuing years, CIA Insurance and Risk Management continued to embrace the changing financial services landscape, broadening and enhancing the scope of services provided to clients.



With walls about to explode due to the growth of the company, the office was moved to Utica.



Mike Clancy joined the team in 2003, merging his financial planning practice with CIA Insurance and Risk Management. This served to significantly broaden and enhance the range of knowledge and expertise available to the firm's clients through the company's Financial Services division. For the first time, both individual and business clients would have access to a comprehensive range of wealth management services delivered from an independent perspective. This led to the development of the company's PATHWAY process which is implemented across the full range of disciplines offered by CIA Insurance and Risk Management.



CIA Insurance and Risk Management moved from its Utica office to the current location in Shelby Twp., offering a better geographic location for clients in the tri-county area.



Sam and Mike acquired founding partner, Jim Kunath, assuming all management and business development responsibilities in conjunction with the current Chief Operating Officer, Heidi Hutchins. Collectively, the team continued to grow through innovation, attracting key talent across the region and industry to meet the growing demand for a consultative approach to developing and delivering comprehensive financial solutions.
